People on the 10-year route are required to renew their immigration status every 30 months for a period of 10 years. The cost of each visa renewal application every 30 months is over £3,900 per person, totalling around £15,600* by end of the 10 years. Once the 10 years is completed, there is an additional cost of £3,029* for an indefinite leave to remain application.
People on the 10-year route are parents of British children, partners of British citizens, or long-term UK residents. Other than the route being punitive, they are often pushed into debt due to the escalating visa fees and many on the route end up experiencing mental health issues due to the ensuing uncertainties. British children are also affected and face instability and limited opportunities despite being British, and with new rules looking to punish people who are/have claimed public funds, many British children will fall further into poverty when their parents are discouraged from accessing the safety net these children are entitled to.
The group meets bi-weekly online to share lived experience and identify key issues to campaign on.
Their priorities:
A fee waiver option for indefinite leave applications for people who can’t afford the £3,029 fee but otherwise qualify
Access to student finance and maintenance loans for people on the route
Shorter route to settlement
