Indefinite Leave to Remain should be affordable for everyone. Let’s change the rules

Right now, many migrants, including children and young people, who’ve lived in the UK for decades are being locked out of permanent residency simply because they can’t afford it.

The Indefinite Leave to Remain is unfair

The fee to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) is £3,029 per person - even though it only costs the Home Office £646 to process.

This means people who’ve lived here for years - raising British children, working or going to school here - are being forced to reapply for temporary visas every 2.5 years, keeping them in a constant cycle of financial hardship.

We have done everything that has been asked of us, lived here for a decade, paid taxes, contributed to our communities. But still, we are forced to renew our visas over and over, not because we are ineligible for ILR, but because we simply cannot afford the fee. This leaves many of our families stuck in limbo, unable to plan for the future, sinking deeper into poverty and mental stress.

What we are asking for

We’re asking MPs to back an early day motion in Parliament that supports a fee waiver for people who simply can’t afford this cost. This motion is a way for MPs to publicly show support and help build pressure on the government to change the rules. But to get their attention, we need to show them people care.

computerCampaign progress so far

We’re excited to share that we have launched an Early Day Motion (EDM) calling for a fee waiver for ILR applications - and we already have 26 MPs from 7 parties signed on in support!

An EDM is a tool MPs use to highlight pressing issues, and it helps organisations like RAMFEL identify which MPs are aligned with the change we want to see. Every MP who signs is helping to bring the need for an ILR fee waiver into the political conversation.

This campaign is just beginning, and we’ll keep pushing until real change happens. You can help now by putting pressure on your MP to sign for support
